Sonoma and Mendocino Coast Whale and Jazz Festival

July 23, 2022 @ 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Whale and Jazz Festival

Concert for Peace and Unity The outdoor concert, organized by Festival Music Coordinator Fred Adler, features the Erik Jekabson Quintet at Gualala Arts Amphitheater, starting at five o’clock. The group will perform the sublime jazz piece, Cristo Redentor, composed by the late pianist Duke Pearson, and made famous by the late, great trumpeter Donald Byrd, in 1964. Gualala artist Violet Arana has sculpted a seven-foot paper mache replica of Brazil’s famous art deco statue of Cristo Redentor (Christ the Redeemer), which overlooks Rio de Janeiro’s harbor, to accompany the theme. Other venues for subsequent concerts include wineries, restaurants, inns from Annapolis to Point Arena, a wine bar, the Arena Theater, and Gualala Arts Center.
