This is the time of year we open our hearts (and wallets) to share a bit of our own good fortune with those whose fortunes could use an extra dash of goodness—that goes double for kids. Devoted staffs, boards, volunteers, and donors support dozens of local nonprofits and government agencies that are dedicated to helping kids be kids, making sure every child feels wanted, important, and taken care of, and guiding children and teens on a healthful path to adulthood. In our end-of-year issue, we profile four inspiring examples of work that benefits local kids and families, with suggestions for ways we all can help sustain them.
